We recognize the justification for existence of the Faculty of Media and Communications in the context of today’s Serbian society at the beginning of the XXI century in realization of the highest standards of academic, scientific and research excellence.
The general direction of activities of the Faculty concerns the development of educational programmes based on the principles of inter/multidisciplinary work and utmost regard of universal rights and democratic values. Bearing that in mind, the Faculty develops priorities in its future work in at least two directions:
-
Meeting the needs of a market in transition and adjusting the educational and scientific research work to the rapid development of new professions and technologies.
-
Besides its participation in the international programmes and projects, the Faculty sees itself as a platform for rethinking and exploring the phenomena of a transitional society, the proper place for producing and reconsidering social discourses, and opening questions relevant for further development of society, in both politico-scientific, and social-humanistic perspective.
The acquiring of an up-to-date education that will enable the students to work, investigate, reflect and participate in the global society is one of the basic tasks of the Faculty. Also, an important function of the Faculty consists in strengthening the credibility and professionalism of the Serbian media, as well as in development of the culture of investigation in the domain of media and communication sciences, with the support of professional practice. We deem our responsibility to educate our students for a world “globalized” in many ways, as well as to uphold “cultural identity” and “difference” (UNESCO Convention).
By nurturing the culture of critical thinking, the Faculty aspires to help its students to become free, independent journalists, equipped with knowledge to explore, verify and offer an information; creative experts in the domain of communication and media, needed to bring about new, European social space; experts that will contribute the democratic development of the country, provide support to the transitional processes, and promote values of European integrations.
The commission for evaluation examines the tasks and goals of the Faculty on a regular basis, evaluating it in the process of planning and distribution of resources, in accordance with the needs of students, other institution of higher education, and the social surrounding in broad terms.
