Short biography:
 
ImageNada Popović Perišić was born in Pirot. Primary and secondary education finished in Belgrade, where she completed the secondary music school “Stanković” and the V Belgrade secondary school. Graduated at the Faculty of Philology in Belgrade in 1970 from the General Literature with Theory, and at the Faculty of Philology in Belgrade at the Group for Philosophy. She defended her M. A. work at the Faculty of Philology in Belgrade in 1976 on the topic of “Roland Barthes’ Views on the Nature of Meaning in Literature”.

Between 1970 and 1972 she was a fellow of the French government at the Ecole Pratique des Hautes Etudes, Paris, France, with Roland Barthes as professor. From 1974 employed at the Institute for Literature and Art in Belgrade as a scientific researcher.

She defended her doctoral thesis “The Notion of Women’s Writing in Contemporary French Literary-Theoretical Thought” in 1987 at the University of Zagreb, the Faculty of Philosophy. Elected to the title of scientific adviser in 1988.

From 1980 to 1984 she worked as a lector of Serbo-Croatian in France, at the Université Bordeaux 3 in Bordeaux. Summer semester of 1988 she spent as a fellow of the Scientific Community of the Republic (of Serbia) at the University of New York in America. From 1988 to 1991 a lector of Serbo-Croatian at the Université Lyon 2, in Lyon. During the school year of 1990/91 she lectured at the Université Paris 7, Jussieu, France, at the Department Texte et Document, as a visiting professor.

From 1987 to 1991 she was one of the co-director for two programmes of postgraduate studies at the Inter-University Center in Dubrovnik. The programme “Beyond Images: Women, Culture and Art” organized by the Institute for Literature in Belgrade, Université Paris 7 and the University of Amsterdam and program “The Feminist Dialectic of Enlightenment” organized by the University of Amsterdam, the University of Utrecht, the University of Berlin, the University of Frankfurt and the Institute for Literature in Belgrade.

Between 1994 and 1998 she held the office of the Minister of Culture in the Republic Government. Between 1999 and 2001 she was the ambassador at the UNESCO in Paris, France. Between 2002 and 2004 she lectured at Jussieu, Paris 7, Paris, France, as a visiting professor.

First works, as well as her magister work, she published in the magazine Treći program, wherein she collaborated for years on a regular basis. During 1979/80 she led her own permanent rubric Miscellanea, in the literary magazine Književna reč. Between 1980 and 1984 a member of the redaction of the literary magazine Književne novine.  A member of the Associations of Writers from 1980. She was permanent critic of poetry of the weekly NIN.

She was an editor and collaborator of the annals published as a result of the scientific meetings held in Dubrovnik, by the Utrecht University, Holland, and Paris 7, Jussieu, France.

Books she translated from French: Žan Piaže, Strukturalizam (Jean Piaget, Le structuralisme) and Žorž Munen, Lingvistika i filozofija (Georges Mounin, Linguistique et philosophie).

Published over 50 texts in domestic and foreign expert magazines.
Edited by the publishing house “Prosveta”, in 1986 she published the book Literatura kao zavodjenje. The publishing house “Prosveta” released the second edition of this book, supplemented and amended, in 2004.

Modern Myths
Introduction to the Theory of Communications―Sign, Image, Meaning (I year of primary studies)

The theoretical part of the course includes the survey of the major theoretical positions within the theory of communications of today. The practical part of the course includes the work on the concrete materials on media. Attending the course, students master the basic notions of today’s theory of communications, develop critical thinking and prepare for analysis and work on the concrete materials on media.
